Bloc Party On

Bloc Party - Silent AlarmBloc Party are one excellent band and tipped to be hot in 2005, whatever that means. First heard Bloc Party whilst watching Soccer AM one Saturday morning when the track Banquet accompanied a feature. Check out the page for the Banquet MP3 - good stuff. And the Banquet Lyrics are included below ;)

Their LP Silent Alarm is out on the 14th February and they're touring the UK in early March. Thing is - the concerts are totally sold out already. Oh well, looking forward to seeing 'em at the London Forum on Friday 4th March :D

And if you check out the bandmembers' bios at the official Bloc Party website you'll notice Joy Division, New Order, The Smiths and Black Sabbath being amongst their varied influences...

Bloc Party - "Banquet"
A heart of stone, a smoking gun
I can give you life, I can take it away

A heart of stone, a smoking gun
I'm working it out

Why'd you feel so underrated?
Why'd you feel so negated?

Turning away from the light
Becoming adult
Turning into my soul
I wanted to bite not destroy
To feel her underneath
Turning into the light

She don't think straight
She don't think straight

She's got such a dirty mind and it never ever stops
And you don't taste like her and you never ever will
And we don't read the papers, we don't read the news
Heaven's never enough, we will never be fooled

Turning away from the light
Becoming adult
Turning into my soul
I wanted to bite not destroy
To feel her underneath
Turning into the light

And if you feel a little left behind
I will see you on the other side

And if you feel a little left behind
I will see you on the other side

Cos I'm on fire
Cos you know I'm on fire when you come

Cos you know I'm on fire
Cos you know I'm on fire so stub me out

Cos I'm on fire
Cos I'm on fire
Cos I'm on fire

Sounds OK, quite a retro-feel to it. I think I'll try to get hold of the album when its available.

SEbasic: You're right there, dude. With the buzz over this band there's some fighting going on out there and, yep, lucky as ever :D

Brom-man: I think you'll enjoy, look forward to hearing your verdict. Very talented band indeed and it's nice to see a good British band again.

I'm always a little wary of helping to hype up these bands too much, but I think these guys have that genuine je ne sais quoi (Pretentious? Moi?) And the gigs sold out super quick.

EatYourCarrots: Banquet has gotta be the favourite track at the mo and there's supposed to be a single out just before the LP. When that kicks of big interest in them they'll have to do some more gigs.

Think they were on Jules Holland over the Xmas period too, and the snippet I caught was good :D

I was pleasently surprised, I expected them to be a lot darker than they were. Yes, I agree they have a definite retro feel, however, there is a lot of clever modern stuff going on there as well. This is the sort of music I like as a complete contrast to the long often pretentious and overproduced stuff I normally listen to. i.e. I have a sprinkiling of tracks like this on my PC (Usually from Q cover discs) so that when I'm listening all day, say when doing DIY, I get something good but different every 30 mins or so. The more I played it the more I got into it, There are some good harmonies going on, they think about their music. I won't be deleting it! I'd have to hear another track before deciding to buy the CD, at full price, I think.

On a technical note, I love the idea of sticking the guitars either side of the stereo picture, putting the drums in the middle, leaving lots of space for everything else. Cool.

Sorry about the double post, Blogger went kind of dead after the first send, so like a prize banana I pushed the big button again... but hey it's in Stereo!

Brom-man: Double-post? That's OK, blogger.com has been acting funny these last couple o' days.

Pleased you like Banquet - great track.

Talking of stereo picture, did you ever listen to Kitaro's Silk Road (Shichu No Michi) track on his first Silk Road LP? The intro (about 20 seconds or so) is actually two completely different but complementary melodies !

And all that stereo trickery talk reminds me of the Eurythmics "Ball & Chain" and a Hawkwind track on the "Levitation" LP...

Hey Rebekah, nice to know you got old before I did ;) :D

Hey Seffy, nice to see ya :D

LOL, know just what you mean, they're guilty of writing some infectious catches... I've had the hook from "She's Hearing Voices" ticking over in my head all day too...

"She got a red pill blue pill, Red pill blue pill, Red pill blue pill, Red pill blue pill"...

    Brilliant.

LOL@Rebekah: one grey hair = dye hair green. What was that term that involved a sledgehammer and a nut...?

You know what they say about er... greenheads don't you...?

    Na, me neither.

Had a green stripe in my hair once and it was all red last year, then I shaved it all off and it went to er blonde/red/brown I think sort of... might grow it back, dunno really
