Fake faded Jeans
Now, I've never been much of a fashion victim, sorry, dedicated follower of fashion and everytime fashion trends happen I steer well clear of them. My most favourite clothing trend to avoid has been the fake faded jeans epidemic; You know, the jeans that look worn, lived in, used, like someone has had an active life, done things...
Fake, all fake. That biker/metal group of friends I used to hang out with as a babe in arms bought me up with the attitude of the "originals" - jeans that you worked and played in. The jeans never got washed and had a real character (life!) of their own.
Now, 2004/2005 step in Howies, "Cardigan Bay's third-largest clothing company". They summed it up a good and proper when they said, in their Autumn/Winter catalogue...
"We think a jean's history should be created by the person wearing them and not a chemical process in a factory"Ha. What say, fake jeans wearing person? Image is nothing, Life is Everything.
Just out of interest, did you see what Howies had to put up with from the denim nazis
Oh and, checking out to see who else mirrored my sentiments, someone else thought that faded jeans are for assholes though whether they saw Abercrombie & Fitch's HUGE collection of fake worn denim at as much as $125 a pop I don't know.

ha. faded jeans.
any clothing trend is for assholes.
abercrombie and fucking fitch. i've actually come to believe that A&F is a wonderful institution for not since the days of Hester Prynn has a large A on someone's chest been such a clear and apt sign of who to avoid.

That is pretty funny. When I was a senior in high school, 30 of us went to Russia for nearly 3 weeks. At the time Russia was still "behind the iron curtain" and anything from the western world like Levi's blue jeans were worth their weight in gold....literally. We were in the elevator of our hotel in Moscow and my buddy had on some blue jeans that he had done some work to. They were "faded" and had the knees cut and frayed. It was the style back then. Anyway, a Russian fellow was in the elevator with a couple of his friends when he saw my friend's jeans, cut and faded. He immediately busted up into an uncontrolled laugh fit as he pointed to my friend's knees. He was laughing so hard, we all started laughing. I think he would pretty much get the same response here in the states today if he were to wear that same pair of jeans. So much for style.

Rebekah: So A&F Tees display the scarlet letter do they? Oooh scary!
I know nothing of the 'cultural' significance of A&F other than they do supply a mountain of 'out of the dumpster' denim that in any other fashion year would be otherwise associated with tramps and low-lifes...
So whst's the view of A&F as a brand and the sociopathic profile of those that buy?
Hey The JG, welcome aboard :D Funny story too :) That's probably considered a bit decadent having a piece of revered fashion and then hacking it to pieces, a bit like trashing your Rolls Royce (or BMW ;) )'cos it's the thing to do. No wonder then Russian guy was in bits himself.
Thing is I always had jeans like that 'cos I was always fixing cars, getting into scrpaes and stuff like that. Before the fashion was in last time, it was considered trashy, the fashion came in and I was 'as cool as' everyone else, then when the fashion went, I was relegated back to being a hobo again 'cos that was my natural look.
LOL, like you say, So much for style. People should just do their own thang :D

Fraid I'm boring when it comes to jeans It's always Levis, nearly always the same style, just blue or black. Where it does get interesting is that I have a cupboard full of em and none of them were bought in the UK. My jeans store is approx 3,500 miles away, and I'm due another shopping trip soon.. YAY!
Oh Lever, your Howies link has one too many "w"'s No biggie, but I thought I'd mention it.
I began to think that Howies was the place in Wales where I got my bright yellow jacket.. but it isn't. Cool stuff tho'

Evening Brom-man :) That's fair enough. The US is cool for Levis and at a very good price too. Only thing is that L Straus & Co bullied Tesco into not selling at drop-down prices *waits for groan* and they got all arsey with Howies...
And thanks for pointing out my wwww reference too ;)
Howies are just one of those really good companies - I like 'em a lot and I'm gonna mega road test my new Howies jeans and see how they hold up LOL

Evening Rebekah :D (well it is here anyway)
It's OK to be judgemental to a certain degree, we all do it, just depends on your parameters, morals, ethics etc.
And just what IS cool anyway? We all say cool, and if we aren't all the same, then cool means different things to different people. Fake life denim is NOT cool, but blogging is. And yet some people will think blogging's for geeks (who I think are cool) and denim with pretend dirt on 'em is cool...
So, you win some, you win some :) And Rebekah is cool so ner :p
