A to Z music collection
Was thinking the other day...
Is there an artist for every letter from A to Z in my music collection?
I'll be right back with the answer... gotta thumb through my CDs... All LPs here, no EPs or singles counted...
A - Alkaline Trio - "From Here to Infirmary"
B - Butthole Surfers - "ElectricLarryland"
C - The Clash - "Combat Rock"
D - Dr. Octagon - "Dr. Octagaonecolygyst"
E - Electric Light Orchestra (E.L.O.) - "Eldorado"
F - Fun Lovin' Criminals - "100% Colombian"
G - Girls against Boys "Venus Luxure No.1 Baby"
H - Helmet - "Aftertaste"
I - Iron Maiden - "Powerslave"
J - Joy Division - "Heart & Soul"
K - Korn - "Life is Peachy"
L - Layo & Bushwacka - "Low Life"
M - Massive Attack - "No Protection"
N - Nine Inch Nails - "Things Falling Apart"
O - Orbital - "In Sides"
P - PreFuse 73 - "Vocal Studies + Uprock Narratives"
Q - Queens of the Stone Age - "Songs for the Deaf"
R - Rammstein - "Mutter"
S - System of a Down - "Toxicity"
T - Tricky - "Pre-Millenium Tension"
U - Underworld - "Second Toughest in the Infants"
V -
W - Weezer - "Weezer"
X - Xmal Deutschland - "Tocsin"
Y - Yeah Yeah Yeahs - "Fever to Tell"
Z - The Ziggens - "Pomona Lisa"
Bollox, looks like a fail in the V department. Not even a single to back me up here. I did have a copy of Voivod's excellent "Nothingface" vinyl once upon a time until my mate accidentally swapped it for some cheesy old disco hits LP. Mission for the day... get back my Voivod LP :D
Anyone got any suggestions for a band/artist begining with V to fill the void in the collection?

I was just trying to think of the group's name when I saw SE Basic posted it. I like that group, some good stuff there.
You have some interesting and unique words over there, what does "Bollox" mean? Like,, does it mean shit or something? :P

this is an excellent game! i am going to try this because i always need things to fill up my time (or else the days just go by dreadful slow) ...
except i'd want to include lps because i have TONS of those ....
and uh, Velvet Underground. there's an excellent V artist for you ... i think i would like to sift through your collection ... some good stuff. ..

oh yeah and i meant to say, i forget sometimes we dont share the same cultural type stuff, for instance i was shocked (apalled!) you didnt know what oreo was.
and i'm thinking you are now the most deprived person i've ever met. and that i should send you oreos. 'cos they are ... amazing. better for expanding the belly than beer, except without the dizzy drunk feeling. unless you eat enough of them that the sugar goes straight to your head and then there's the dizzy drunk feeling!
but i know nothing about self moderation. i have no control over my whims and urges. just thought you should know.

Pepper - Nice musical tip, cheers :) Know the name, Veruca Salt, but don't recall the sounds... will have to check 'em out.
SE - L'homme de Chamonix returns. OK, dude I'll check Velvet Revolver and Bloc Party out too :) Again, familiar names but me no recognise the sounds...
Kalina - According to our home-grown comedian 'Brummy', Jasper Carrot, bollox are zits. So next time you meet an English chemist/pharmacist just ask "have you got anything for these bollocks?" ;)
Nah, I'm joshing ya, actually it's slang for balls and accordingly affords itself the privelege of being a cuss word too :)
Rebekah - Cool :) Be interesting to compare notes on collections... Velvet Underground - good commendation; is that with or without Nico?
Looking over the list again there's a couple I'd maybe change or at least offer an alternative - Dr. Octagon is more of an 'O' so I'll back that up with Depeche Mode - I dunno, err... "Ultra" and the weighting, random as it is, tends slightly toward metal/rock so I'd balance it all out with a bit of The Smiths - "Hatful of Hollow" AND that gets 2x more Brit bands in the mix :)
LOL, OK Rebekah, so do you know what "Jaffa Cakes" are then?
And don't worry about whims and urges... just go with the flow, girl :D

Why oh why (R oh R) didn't I put down Recoil - "Unsound Methods" for the letter R? That guy is just an experimental musical genius that gets so little recognition for what he does... will blog about Recoil someday soon...

Also, you should look at The Zutons...
But Bloc Party...
Seriously. Make it a priority... Banquet is easy to find and listen to (I think download.com even has a copy of that track).
I'm really lovin them right now.
A cross between the Cure, The Clash and Morrisey (sp?!?)...
CHECK THEM OUT NOW!!!
PS - Chamonix was cool ;)

Zutons huh? Are they any good in soup?
Yep, dl'ing "Banquet" now - I think Soccer AM used a Bloc Party track in a video feature and, judging by the photo, weren't they on Jules Holland's show too?
...tick, tock...
Yeah, that's them, f'ing ace band, nice riffin' and vocals a little reminiscent of Damon Albarn

Hell Lever old chap your blogging-rate-o-meter must be winding itself around the end stop. I like the A-Z thing. I gotta do it, or similar soon. Great eclectic* mix there. (*Thats my new word of last year, hav'nt a clue what it means, but it pops up enough in the music mags for it to look right at home here!) Racking my brains as I type to think of a "V" band.. The Mars Volta springs to mind but doesn't count. Of Course.. Van bloomin Halen... OK so I got no problems in the V area!! Akk, why did I tune in here tonight, I know I'm just going to have to do a list before bed time!.. cheers.

rebekah, Marmite is real Brit food :-) Jaffa cakes are surprisingly good for you as they are low fat. Wankers, yes, you just gotta try wankers.

LOL @ Rebekah... that's got me hooked... where is that from? You're in line for big Jaffa Cake delivery, grrl :D Hmm, VU without Nico is worth a try. The Andy Warhol one I heard some time ago but it has dropped off the radar since then... wondering....
Brom-man: It's been an 11 on the dial day :D GO for it, give the A-Z a blast - I assumed it was easily cracked until the letter V blew a big hole in the picture :( Oh well :)
Mars Volta, yes. And Van bloody Halen, of course. It's tricky having gone from vinyl and compact casette to CD and we forget now, MP3... but, yes that was the CDs and just the long players. LOL
Rebekah, remember Marmite=Truth

The Mars Volta Album is excellent too.
Also, check out Razorlight.
(Sorry for all the repeat posts, just keep thinking of great albums and bands).
Oh, and also, listen to "The Tipping Point" by "The Roots".
Really good HipHop album.

SE, you just keep posting, dude; this is everyone's playground :D
Mars Volta, again, another name bought to my attention by Brom-man, And RazorLight, a well-hyped band but maybe a little too light for my liking, but I'd be happy to go see 'em nonethelesss. Last live band was GreenDay about 2 years ago... great live band no matter what anyone says...
"The Roots"... good hip hop suggestion. I'll trade ya for some Aim...

Razorlight are very good, musically. Otherwise a little "light" for one's own personal tastes... but still good nonetheless.
I wouldn't turn down a night with a chick at a Razorlight concert over a night with one's qualms against it... ;)

I saw Razorlight at Reading last year...
They put on a fu king good show.
If you're looking for something a little heavier, I can suggest Tool/A perfect Circle.
Tool are great. I've been listening to them for years now...
Also, System of a Down are good fun if you really want to thrash it about a bit.
I saw them at Brixton Academy a couple of years ago. I was supposed to see them in October'01 but it was delayed due to 9/11...
I think I saw them a year or so later, and boy was it worth the wait. Better live than in the studio IMO...

A Perfect Circle are good - "Mer de Noms" was a good LP, the track "Judith" was the track that pulled me into that one.
SOAD - had tickets for that gig too, and yeah, didn't go 'cos it got pulled due to 911. Or was that a Blink 182 gig? Or was it Jimmy Eat World? The J.E.W. LP "Bleed American" got pulled just after I bought it , again 'cos of 911, so I think they renamed it "Salt Sweat" or something...
Kalina: Here's some popcorn for ya, don't know how much butter's on it ;)

Hey Kalina - How's things? :)
Mer de Noms is a Great Album...
How about Kyuss...
They're basically Queens of the Stone Age, but before they were Queens of the Stone Age if you get what I mean.
Stoner Rock would be the best way to describe them.
Long drawn out heavy riffs and mean Bass lines.
Worth a listen for sure.
FYI - I have the back catalogue ;)

Hey SE: there was a Perfect Circle track on the film UnderWorld last night. MMMmm Kate Beckinsale :)
And I tried booking some Bloc Party tickets for March but everywhere's sold out already Grrr.
Also heard on the radio a rumor that Velvet Revolver were to be playing somewhere extremely local to YT but the venue's not confirmed their presence yet...

In my teens I had a record called Man In The Box(well, I still have it actually) by a band called V2.
You can read about them here...

Nice one EYC, thanks for the link there :D That was an interesting read. Like the quote "but due to inexperience, bad management, and dubious substances, they split up in 1980." Oh yeah, and what dubious substances were they? LOL
The V2 page also mentioned the Morecambe Punk Festival - wonder if that's a regular event?
Well waddya know - Morecambe Punk Festival is 19-22 May 2005 http://www.punkfestival.co.uk/
I seem to remember a support band for Helloween at the Hammersmith Odeon (as it was then) who I'm sure were also called V2, German, and the female vocalist had a big carved stick.
Not bad what you can remember after 4 cans of lager and half a litre of vodka.
Which leads nicely on to those bottled vodka Martinis they did a few years back; also called V2.
Think Veruca Salt got ordered last night... yes, for sure: it says 02:45am on the invoice :)

Van Morrison is not one I had even considered so I shall put the man on the recommendation list and 'keep an ear out' (?) for him. And Velvet Underground have cropped up a few times here, so that's another notch-up for them too. Cool. Thankyou :)
