New toy - Fuji S7000

The local Custom Car Show Wheels Day 2005 is on tomorrow. I usually take a ton of photos but have missed the show for a couple of years and I'm looking forward to being there again. Hopefully my buddies will have the Pontiac and the Camaro ready to show, but my hot rod aint ready :( Maybe next year huh?

Trouble is that I didn't get my old Fuji S602 fixed in time ("burn" mark on the CCD) I could have used it but all the pics would have been "tainted" - look at the blot in the sky on the Watership Down post. The 35mm SLR could have once again seen the light of day too, but the photos need to be published in a hurry so any "downtime" was not an option.

Fuji S7000So in a state of emergency I dusted off the credit card *cough spit* and looked around for some new gear. Dropping any features or losing an functionality was not on the agenda so I settled for the Fuji S7000, the natural predecessor to the Fuji S602 Zoom.

The best deal was from the UK's Internet Cameras Direct who had two of these "Rare as rocking horse shit" devices; not bad considering many places were out of stock due to an alleged "worldwide shortage", and the only other place that carried stock (where I got the S602 some 3 years ago - once the cheapest place on the 'net) had put a £200 premium on their camera! (w*nkers)

Anyway ICD were really helpful, very polite, guaranteed a next day delivery and threw in some extras (512mb card and a case) at a nice price :D

It's pretty much the same camera as my old one with a few minor updates (6-12 meg CCD, xD card, remote cable fitting, 1 new focus setting, more tactile finish to the camera body...) and there's a pos and a neg to this.
+ It must be a good design for Fuji not to have changed it in 3 years
+ No need to learn any new settings
+ 512Mb of photos (not 128Mb)
+ double the resolution (not that I see any need for 4048x3040 pixels for web use and 15"x10" prints just yet)

- The Subaru needs tax, MOT and a full service next week
- It's not really a toy, it's a replacement for a piece of busted kit that actually earns me a crust
- I'm not really that excited by it
- Can't believe I just sat here and wrote all this crap
I love it really ;) Just could have done with spending the dosh on something else.

There is something in the water. It makes the natives radiate with an odd glow. Why do we systematically ignore and deny these signs of the apocalypse? Why do we sit idly by and try to seek normalcy when it is merely an opiate of the mind. Why do we permit the madness? Take action now! hiddenfish: In the spirit of randomness, hddenfish, thankyou for your comment, spammy though it may be considered, you are nonetheless welcome :)

So, to the question. Why here? You know me? You know people here? We know you already? Perchance a drive-by statement regarding one's denunciation of "the evils of materialism"? Just incase that is the point, and I can see that credit cards, Subarus and digital cameras are often badges of people's so-called status; however, in the hands of this modest and down-to-earth blogger they are a necessity :D

Yes, you have sparked my curiosity, yes I have visited your blog and probably a few here will come see what you're up to aswell. You certainly have my attention engaged so have faith in the knowledge that I will be regarding your activities ;)

Anyway, just for the record, I wear yellow. As a fan of cycling and an admirer of the sporting abilities and sheer determination to live life in the face of huge adversity, my wrist is circled in yellow in support of the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

Again it is not a symbol of cool, as has been hijacked my so many members of the public, but a statement of my understanding and appreciation of the battle against cancer.

My Uncle is now embarking upon a course of chemotherapy so for him and others yellow is my colour.

Good day to you, hiddenfish, I'm sure we will meet again :)

Rebekah: You didn't remark on hiddenfish's comment? I am surprised young lady ;)

If you need a camera for gigs, still life, sports and portaiture, you wouldn't go much wrong with an S7000 - it's extremely versatile. Here's a nightshot from back in November...

Denounce "the evils of materialism" and get one ;)

Spammer alert! Orange jellies are stupid, its all about black and blue.

Anyway...that camera is sweet. I also <3 it. Makes my little a303 look like a toy.

Did I just read right? You're a photographer, aye? Mmmm, sounds lovely...[jealousy peaking through]

If I ever can save up some money, a sweet camera, like your own, will be quickly in my sweaty palms. Oh, and then I'll be running around the world with that thing, if I can help it. I *need* to travel...(kinda like when my 3-yr-old declares "I NEED jelly beans!")

I know the feeling of shelling out hard-earned cash for something that you already have, basically. Back in year 11, my CD wallet was stolen with plenty of originals in it. I ended up buying some of them again, because they were fantastic CDs.

RahX: LOL well if you've got a Fuji a303 then at least you can put it in your pocket :D The S7000 is a bit big to carry around sometimes. When I'm out biking I worry about landing on the damn thing and either smashing it or my back LOL

Rebekah: Hehe, confusion? I'd just go for a bit of ????? to say that ;)

BeckyBumbleFuck: I wish I was just a photographer, it's just a part of what I do and does earn a crust - the rest of the bread is earned from the main bits of my job. But to photograph all day everyday - yeah, I could do that :D

Know what you mean about the travelling - I need some too. You'd also need a laptop or a net connection to get your pics home...

[-o-]: Ah man, having stuff stolen really sucks. All thieves should be shot.

And music, man, that's so personal. At least, relying on the laws of Karma, you know that somebody somewhere is having a crap time because they stole your CDs ;)

Seffy: You've changed your name! Must we call you that from now on? Do we call you S or TMRBiC ?!

Don't nick my camera, TMRBiC, or I'll shop ya >:| ;)

Jazzy: What, you wish you had 6x optical zoom? A bit like 6 million dollar man huh? That would be neat :D

Hi, my CCD has completely crapped out on my S602 (after a short 18 months) and Fujifilm is refusing to replace it, so I'm trying to gather together a few other folk to attempt to give the cause some weight (and hopefully get them to fix them for free). You probably know already the CCD has been an issue for other fujifilm models. If you are interested in jumping on the bandwagon, drop me an e-mail. -Joyce, seismo_schwa at hotmail.com
