'twas a Mini Adventure

FRIDAY: Glorious sunshine in the south of England, and a 4 and a half hour business meeting was a great way to start the day... By 1:30pm I was totally Hank Marvin and raced home to have lunch on the go, do the rest of the day's work and then load-up the wagon and head west...

It got grey and it started to rain...

The journey was pretty uneventful apart from getting hit by a stray hubcap and laughing my arse off at some twat in a Jag on the Severn Bridge. He stopped at the automatic toll booths where you throw your coins in a hopper and the barrier opens to let you through. Having only a filthy five pound note I went to the "manned booth". Only it was a woman - so why was it not a "womaned booth"? As my queue got shorter, the twat in the Jag was still at the front of his... either there was some malfunction with the machinery or it was his karma biting him in the ass for throwing some dodgy foreign coinage in there to pass-off as pound coins, not actually having any change, not having the right change... whatever.

Rock & FountainThe Rock & Fountain in Clydach was cool. The landylady had a lot of front, so that was a warm welcome :D A couple of local beers and a sirloin steak dinner and I was ready for bed. 9pm to be precise. Far too tired to be sociable. At 10 I was awoken by "the Summer of '69" belting out of the karaoke night...

Looking north-east as mist rolls down the Glynn TarellSATURDAY: 8am and off to Merthyr Tydfil and Brecon to get a bacon roll and some cycling. Then back to the hotel for a wash and a change of clothes. Only one problem - I hadn't packed any underwear. Socks, yes, undercrackers, no. I asked the chambermaid where I could purchase replacement keks and she directed me to the nearest purveyor of pants - Tesco.

So, after a pantless dash to le supermarché and back, it was a time for a quick wash & scrub-up before heading off, complete with shiny new boulder holders, to the borders again for some Mountain Mayhem. The lads had got there only minutes beforehand so the timing was excellent. Mind you, they had stopped for a pub lunch on the way there. B*st*rds. LOL

Most of us had waterproofs & sturdy boots, so these were topped off with race suits & skid lids ready for some hot TomCar action...

It was too damn wet & muddy to even risk taking the camera out, so we just bombed 'round a Welsh field in our cars with jumps, drops, park-ups and the infamous water-run and got completely plastered in mud.

The mud up my nose had a distinctly "more than just mud" aroma to it... and I wasn't the only one to notice...

So the rain came down and we got wetter and eventually very cold too. But this was all forgotten when some modest old soul won the first prize - a trophy and a bottle of bubbly to shake & spray at the crowd ;)

SUNDAY: After an evening of much boozing we had a big fry-up for breakfast. The groom couldn't handle his eggs & bacon, but then he did sleep with a bin by the side of his bed...

Hovercraft boys have a lot of fun...The day was sunny and the event was hovercraft racing. We passed the field we raced in the day before and found a couple of horses in there... so yeah, it wasn't just mud...

The hovercraft were so much more difficult to control than the tom cars, needing a lot of leaning to coax the machines 'round bends. I was totally crap at it and, in complete contrast to the day before, came an enjoyable & most impressive last.

The best laugh came when *somebody* attempted a jackass-esque kamikaze manouevre and ditched the hovercraft violently into the deck before performing a commando-roll out of the lurching vehicle & then springing to their feet in jubilation. For a brief moment everybody was "having kittens" and then fell about the floor with laughter. Needless to say that was not the last I heard of it :D

Longtown Castle keepOh, yeah, and I "just popped in" to a castle that I saw on the way home too... Longtown Castle. I saw the castle on the map for the way home and then the sign at the roadside in the village of Longtown and made an impromptu stop to have a quick looksee and grab some photos...

And that was it, a thoroughly pleasant and enjoyable couple of days :D

How was your weekend?

OK, so besides the shit up your nose, that sounded just about excellent! The Montain Mayhem thing would have made me confused as to what to pick...I'd want to spelunk, walk in a gorge, build a raft, it would go on and on. Congrats at your expert Tomcarring and inspiring kittens via your hovercraft *skillz*. ;) (You put that all very nicely, BTW. I'm still laughing...)
Hmmm, and the castle looked downright foreboding. I'll have to remember to make a nice horror movie there.
MY weekend? A little less muddy and action-filled than yours, thanks for asking. ;)

BBFK: LOL, first prize to Becky for noticing I had shit up my nose. Quick question, whilst we're on the subject, Becky, if you don't mind? Are you the sort of girl who let me walk 'round all day and tell me later that I had shit up my nose? LOL

Ooh, you got me on the spelunking (I didn't know what that was) but yeah, there's so many other things to do at that place - very highly recommended!!

*skillz* - LOL haven't seen that in a while :)

And a Horror Movie huh? What's it gonna be - black & white? Shot on 8mm? A splatter fest or more of a psychological/ ghost story?

I *heard* that you made chocolate scones, you lucky devil you ;)

Shit in the nose: Oh, I'd let you know. Over and over and over for the two weeks following, as well. ;)
As far as my horror movie goes, it would definitely be the type that messed with you psychologogically. Nice and subtle and scary as fuck. Black and white...yes, probably.
And mmmmm, chocolate chip scones (they're history already.) I was nice and even diveed a couple out to the neighbor (doesn't mean I'm in for their swinging party, however.) ;)

BBFK: LOL - oh, OK then, thanks :)

What about the original "The Haunting"? - now THAT was a good old ghost movie.

Bugger. Missed oout on the choc chip scones. If you send me some of the next batch I'll let you swing over here. Promise ;) LOL

Rebekah: Ooh, ooh, what show was it? Tellme, tellme, tellme, perleeeeasse? You know you want to ;) How much did it kick ass? How crisp was it? You got a sore butt then? LOL Smooshy and kicked ;)

Glad you like the mens underwear section :) I bet it wasn't half as good as your kick ass show though...

...go on, Rebekah, tell me *flutters eyelashes as best as a guy can do* :D

    *swoon* the eyelashes ...

i saw Wilco on saturday nite ... yes, my ass is sore from being kicked ... and i like it ... i liked it lots ;)

so uh, question for you: when you guys purchase underwear from the store, does it ever bother you that all the men's underwear packages have pictures of men with their bits and pieces hanging out right in front of you ? does it ? i bet it'd be a little disconcerting ... another man's uh package ...

i spend way too much time thinking about ... things ... nevermind.

    Hi there!

    Lever-
Photos look nice. Seem you enjoyed the weekend :)

    Becky, Rebekah, Seffy ---
Hey girls :D nice to meet you all again here!!! Have a nice day!

Rebekah: LOL *batts the eyelashes a bit more for effect* ;)

Ah, Wilco, new band to check out - I see they've been going a while but not heard 'em yet - cheers for the tip off and glad to know you enjoyed the show :D (Rhyming!!) Grab yourself a cushion...

And on the purchasing of men's underwear - good question. The thought did cross my mind momentarily as I picked up a "pack of 3" with a photo of a finely chiseled & waxed torso on the front. Momentarily. Then I just thought "what the hell" and had them anyway.

I suppose it would be more disconcerting to buy 'em with that other guy's name on them (CK), to buy ladies lingerie (are they for him or not?) or to buy hardcore porn magazines... so, by comparison, my boxers aint a bad purchase.

See, I spend way too much time thinking about things too. I love it :D

Shina: Hey Shina, thanks :) The photos show the contrasts from rain & mist to sun & blue skies, so a weekend of contrasts. But yes, nice nonetheless :) You should see Wales sometime - it's an interesting place :D

That sounded like a good old weekend there Lever, and in Wales, what could be better one asks!!

Did you see any sheep?.. what a stupid question?.. it's Wales right, where men are men and sheep are nervous. For the next time tho' here is a tip, the best place to make love to a sheep?.. edge of a cliff... they push back you see.

ah. well now that we have the underwear issue cleared right up ...

DID you see any sheep? how about monkeys? i like monkeys

    i want a monkey.

  • At Tue Apr 26, 02:38:00 PM, Blogger Lever said…

Brom-man: Ha, yes I saw sheep, Brom-man, and plenty of them; and a welcome sight it was too. Fields 'round here get covered in concrete and used to develop 20 million flats for the sort of people who can fit their lives into a suitcase; then they call that the lounge.

    I digress...

For a minute I thought you would mention velcro-mittens, but you didn't so that's OK :D

Rebekah: Yes. Sheep. Lots. And lambs too. And you know what you say when you greet sheep don't ya?

Monkeys? Well apart from some of the lads swinging on the monkey bars on the assault course, no. No monkeys.

I like monkeys too. They're cool. They could inspect your scalp whilst you sit reading :)

I wish I could just "pop in" to a castle. It would require a trans-atlantic flight for me.

RahX: Dude, whenever you come over to the UK just give me a shout. That was a small motte & bailey castle, and locally there's one just 5 miles from here too (King John's Castle - a medieval hunting lodge really and not much left of it - but an 800 year old castle nonetheless). Some of the BIG castles are well impressive, but the REALLY cool ones are in France & Germany.

Rahx, don't forget to take me with you. I'm tall, but if I fold well enough I might fit in some carry-on luggage. ok, maybe not.
Yes, I wish we could just pop in to a castle.
We do, however, have incredible spelunking sites, here. I haven't been in a while, but I miss it. Such fun! Southern Indiana is "cave country", after all.

SynapseSoup: Hey there SynapseSoup, welcome :) LOL@ smuggling your way into the UK in RahX's suitcase... that conjured up an interesting picture...

Wow that's twice spelunking has cropped up in here now... might have to try spelunking even though I'm a little claustrophobic... wide open spaces and (forever) blue skies are more my line but, yeah, I'd give that a go.
