Hello Moto...
Not being a dedicated follower of fashion meant having the same old mobile phone for about 3+ years; you know - the 'old faithful' Motorola V50, once cool & tiny (compared to other phones) but most recently falling out of favour with the peer group. Well, that was OK 'cos nobody else had one, and besides; I don't care :p Ha, anyway, just what *is* cool? Different or all the same?Anyways, it withstood the tide of modernity until 3 recent incidents...
1) The question of "what was L S Lowry's former career?" came up on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" the other week (pronounced "miw-yon-aire" as in "This time next year, Rodney, we'll be miwwionaires" ). I knew the answer, lightning fast, and knew I was in with a chance... the V50 won't let you text the answer "D" to a number - the recipient has to be in your phone book to receive a text... Bollocks!
2) The other week I cycled past a minefield. I had my phone on me but no camera... OK, I got the picture in the end, but it involved getting home, grabbing the camera and cycling back to get the shot for you lot ;)
3) The joy of text. Or rather not. The V50 is a pig to type msgs on, doesn't always give me a buzz to let me know when a msg trns up and has been sending me random, already received msgs and making me ask people if, what, when and why they sent me stuff I already got when they didn't... weird non?
So that was it, yesterday the V50 got replaced buy a super sexy Motorola V635 - metal casing, bluetooth, 1.2M camera, MP3 player, quad band, 16Mb flash memory (upgradeable to 256Mb), bluetooth headset, headphones, data cable and all manner of other gizmos and features. It just doesn't have a teleporter, time travel facility or x-ray camera... rats! Now all I gotta do is suss out how to get my mates photos off the PC hardrive and into the phone book... and see who gets my "new phone cherry"...

Congrats on the purchase Lever ;-)
"just what *is* cool?" - different of course!
Just checked that phone on the motorola and man it has a ton of features - go you
As of getting the picture from the pc hardrive I'm sure you can work that one out - data cable should do the trick. The way I transfer files is with the gorgeous bluetooth
This post make me wanna upgrade my phone too, I've had the nokia 6100 since it came out :-S

Sheeit! That cell wonder even has an MP3 player? That makes me almost jealous...But really I'd be dangerous with TOO nice of a phone. I mean I haven't left it in the dishwasher or anything (I mean, *really* I have a friend who did), however, mine is regularly dropped and left in silly places. Oh and there's that growing inclination that I have to pitch the cell when it misbehaves and wrecks a text that I'd spent so long typing out. That wouldn't do with your gorgeous phone. In fact, with a phone like that who needs a girl? ;) Which brings us to the cell phone cherry, as it were. Hmmmm? Have ya broken it, L? ;)

Ugh, its a motorola. Hope you don't want signal in all places dude ;-)
Although the feature set sounds pretty similar to my trusty (and 1yr old now) Nokia 6230. MP3 player on the phone (with speaker!) is one of those things you use very occasionally but is very cool... playing Weird Al to mates in the pub is funky.

Piniyini: Cheers dude, knew I had some catching up to do, you with your 6100 and all that ;)
Not half as cool as your new lappy though. :)
I got the pic from PC to the phone's flash card but cannot seem to acces it from within the phone except as wallpaper... more investigation needed...
BBFK: Left in the dishwasher? Bleedin' ell, how daft is that? Mind you, my brother did drop the old man's cellphone down the toilet LOL
Don't smash your phone up, BB, you'll regret it.
And yeah, lucky for me it was a "fire-fighting" friend of mine; she popped it this afternoon just after a blaze. How cool is that? =)
And yeah, tea's good, BBFK. You get it over there much? Apart from BubbleTea that is?
Red: Hey, *thanks* man LOL I love my 'rolas now. I'll let you know how the signal issue goes ;)
Nice to catch up with everyone's phone habits at last. Hey - I can get the crazy frog ringtone now... no, no, was joking. I f**king hate that thing.
And "Weird Al" Yankovic huh? Not heard any of his stuff for ages. I'll have to go check him out again.

1.) Daft *may* be my favorite British word *ever.*
;)
2.) Yeah, and my daft friend actually managed to "save" the phone by baking it in the oven for a spell. I mean *really*-that part's true as well!!
3.) (laughing..) That lucky bitch. ;)
4.) No, there hasn't been ANY tea of late, which is quite a shame, since I really quite like it. ;) Maybe you could get me some? *cute smile + head tilt*

hm, yes, sexy ... you know what though ? i had a decent cell phone (i guess) for awhile, but the bugger went and broke or something on me (for some reason i couldnt dial the number 7 ? and some other numbers) and i couldnt afford a new phone as an existing Sprint customer, so we found this OLD OLD OLD cell phone from like, 1998 and the thing is fecking huge. HUGE. and i would be embarassed to use it if i were that type of person but a cell phone is a cell phone, you know? have you ever seen the movie "A Night at the Roxbury?" it's stupid, but hilarious, and there's a scene where the mom gives her grown up sons cell phones and they're these freakin' huge 70s cell phones ... i call my current phone my "roxbury phone" for that reason ... so... yeah. i'm done verbally spewing all over your blog now ...

I consider myself somewhat cellphone savy, as I sell the shit everyday. Hate to burst bubbles but...
Say goodbye to your battery life if you actually use it as an mp3 player. A stand alone mp3 still trumps and phone as of now.
1.3 megapixel camera with a shitty lens = bigger, yet still blurry pics.
I have a Sanyo 8200 myself. Great battery life and above all great signal, trumps my brothers samsung for signal every time. Camera, speakerphone, all I need :D
Anyway...what'd you get the new moto for in us dollars? Or since its cinco de mayo...dollares :P
The large storage is nice, thats a lot of ringers and pic's you can store! Being able to txt just a phone number entered must be the biggest upgrade!

A few of you mentioned phone mishaps, I think the funniest one was my uncle. He dropped his phone in a fryer! & he had only jus' bought it recently.
Then there was my cousin, he dropped his moby in the bog while getting up! That guy is the ultimate when it comes to comedy, we call him Rodney.

Uh, I'm no trend-setter, but cameraphone is fun. Flickr is attractive...I met wonderful people there. And my cell was 1 yen DoComo phone, but useful.

My bro's cell is new, and it has TV, TV phone, music + motion-movie...unbelievable. But he still can't use i-mode mail...lol.

1) It certainly is an often under-appreciated word and when used in the term daft-as-a-***** just cracks me up LOL
2) OMG I bet the circuits were "fried" afterwards ;)
3) Easy tiger, I'm not sure I want a cat fight on my turf OK?
4) *sucker for cute gestures says..* you want tea? Wow, and I thought Americans only drank coffee. Oh, and BubbleTea (with fruit loops at the bottom or whatever the hell they were) Seems like I learn new things about you people every day :\
Which is nice :)
Rebekah: LOL and you're saying bugger too... it's catching...
So where's the pics of this "house brick" then? That'd be a laugh to see :)
And "A Night at the Roxbury" hmmm... I do not believe that I have seen this film. I may have to check it out for comedy phone value. LOL - wait, I got one... "have you got a 'Roxbury phone' in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me" :)
LOL Roxbury in your pocket =\
Spew away, Rebekah, everyone's welcome to say as little or as much as they like here. Just don't froget to clean up any chunks ;)
RahX: Dude, I sat in a pub garden in the sunshine on Monday and thought to myself... must ask RahX for his advice regarding phones... when all of a sudden it was Wednesday and I remebered that;
a) I'd not asked you and
b) I needed a phone NOW
So... battery life has been pretty short already after just 36 hours - but then I've been toying with the thing and vids, flash etc all take a toll on it... shall do the next charge with "normal" use and see how it goes :)
The camera... hmm, not had the chance to really test it out yet...
But that Sanyo 8200 looks like a good phone...
I paid the rough equiv of $115 for it and still don't understand Cinco de Mayos (which was yesterday now anyhow) LOL
Piniyini: ROFL funny as, man. Deep-fried mobile MMMmmm :)
And Rodders dropping his cell in the crapper LMAO - talking of which I'm guessing the phone fell in before he flushed? *grimace* LOL

Shina: Ooh, sorry Shina I posted a second or two after you got here. Apologies for missing you out :)
You seem to have all the toys over there in Japan. I really must plan to get out and the see the place sometime soon, current plans withstanding :)
Now if I can only get my photos from my PC to Caller photo ID... RahX... help! ;)

Getting photo's onto the phone isn't really a common feature at all. Some of the phones with removeable media, like secure digital cards, have that feature. I think its a way of carriers making money off the services they offer, rather that letting the user do what they want.
Its a nice moto-phone thats for sure, there really just needs to be better Li-ion battery technology to make them as useful as they could be. Under regular calling use, battery life should be a lot better.
Cinco De Mayo is a mexican holiday, basically you drink :P I agree, everyday should be a holiday but my liver doesn't like that idea much.

RahX: Cheers dude :)
I can get the pics from the PC to the 16Mb "Transflash" media card, but the phone won't allow me to use stuff from the card in photo IDs.. it's so close but so far away too...
The photo ID will only use the default pics (which are mostly pretty rubbish) or photos taken with the camera... and I can't get pics across from the flash card to the phone... yet!
I'm gonna do some investigating and see if I can try and hack this mobile... :)

OK, OK, I'm back in line now. ;) No more name-calling or demands.
Oh, oh, oh...and I have a guess for your RTFM Fund, BTW. (Although, since you're in the dark on it yourself, it will have to go unrewarded that I am *obviously* right) ;)
RTFM Fund = Reduce The Funky Mold Fund, left by a roommate to subtly indicate that things have gotten a bit out of hand in the bathroom and there needs to be professional assistance. Eh, eh? (OK, maybe I'm not back *precisely* in line yet, I may need another reprimand.) ;)

Were you being polite there by not saying Reduce The Fucking Mould? :) The bathroom's spotless so I doubt it's that... OK, when I find out WTF RTFM is then yours will be the first guess on the list OK? I doubt if you'll get the cash as a prize though; sorry, out of my hands it is :)
