Day 6: Comedown
Ah, the morning after...
...hitting the bar at the hotel the night before.
S'OK we weren't too pissed or anything. All we had to do was get up, have a big American breakfast, say our goodbyes and hit the road.
Driving back to New York was not a nice feeling I can tell you... so this is it... 6 hours in the car, hang about at JFK for 3 hours then onto a plane for another 6 hours... the distance widening again between BBFK & Lever...
The traffic was shit. Tailbacks 60 miles from the big apple and continuing for miles and hours... then it started to get dark... there was this overwhelming feeling of me missing my plane, of being late in to work tomorrow morning... and then it happened.
Tappan Zee bridge, about a mile out...
GRiDLoCK
OK, no grids, but the traffic came to a complete standstill and stayed like that for 2 hours. Being nosey I overheard a truck driver saying there was a car fire on the bridge. I called the airline; if I wasn't in JFK by 10 o'clock, that was it...
By ten, the traffic started to move again...
So, I relaxed. BBK relaxed.
"Home, girl..."
Back up the i95, back to CT, back to BBFK's place...
...sometimes I absolutely LOVE being late.

*slyly asks* SO....how *was* that American breakfast for ya? Did you miss your puddings? ;)
And, my Lever, *shakes head* the driving that you enduring during our trip...you deserve a gold star! DO you recall that we almost got run off the road within a half hour of leaving the JFK airport the day that you arrived, or had I worn you down with too much NYC walking in bad shoes to log memories at that point?
And babes, I was NEVER so happy to have someone miss their flight, as when you did that Sunday....*huge smile*

My BBFK: Puddings? What, afters? Cupcakes? *laughing* Yes, dear, American breakfast was most excellent! Especially with syrup ontop. And I'll do you a full English next time, as discussed elsewhere in the realm of this happy little blog :)
Yeah, driving in your country can be hairy to say the least - I remember that, and yeah, YTF did I wear those damned nice (looking) shoes to walk around NYC?
But that wasn't the only incident, babe... I remember we nearly came off on the way back from Rochester too...
Yeah, that was the best case of being late EVER. Really glad I missed that flight, it gave me another most precious day with you, sweetheart... *huge grin*

LOL, sounds like some people had a good week then :) :)
Is JFK the closest airport then? We looked into flying into JFK and driving down to south NJ, but then we ended up flying to Philadelphia direct. My friends I travelled with had been to JFK before, and said it can be a little painful. My own trips to the big apple area have been by train (from DC, great way to arrive) or flying into Newark.
Farnborough is just not happening enough is it?!?

Red: It was bloody brilliant :D JFK was handy for me to touchdown, especially with only 6 days in the US. CT is only an hour away, so we did NYC, stayed in CT for a night and half a day... JFK was ideal for that and OK to get in and out of (apart from the traffic on Tappan Zee Bridge LOL)
If I'd not wanted to see NYC so much I'd have flown into Toronto and got friends to drop me off at Buffalo... it's the cheaper option, more fun, but obviously more complicated, more connections... if you ever wanna know how to do that one, just drop me a line :)
Farnborough, much maligned by its denizens, is actually a great place to be based... the M3, a quick connect to the A3, railway, not far to LHR, 2 hours to Wales, the coast etc. We're OK here as a hub, but if you wanna do some shouting at the council for things like cinemas etc then I'll be happy to join in :D

I love that moment when you realize that you're gonna be late, its out of your hands so you may as well resign yourself to it and get on with life.
Now did someone say breakfast? Im missing black pudding. you can get it here but its just not quite right

Keeefer: Keeefer, the terrain 'round here is ace for biking, that's mostly what kept me here plus the access to most places, plus the south's warmer than the north and after 6 hour drives with BBFK I realised that a trip to Scotland is f'all really *laughing*
Yeah, resigned to it I was, and it was such a good feeling, plus we got another day out of it :D
Yeah, breakfast was mentioned... you in need of a parcel too?

Lever, BP wouldnt make it through customs as its not pre cooked :(
Ive been to Farnboro a few times. Its ok but i lived in Bournemouth so i was spoilt on the southern coast. All those foreign students semi naked on the beach in the summer. They put telescopes on the pier too so you can...umm... look out to sea

Why do I get so giddy every time I read about you guys? You're a throwback I suppose, to the way things are supposed to be, and how exciting the newness of it all is.

Keeefer: Ah, damn. Maybe if I fry it up first then post it? Greasy parcel anyone? LOL
Yeah, Bournemouth's good - I nearly moved there one wild summer... the scene was fun but I don't miss the punch-ups...
Last time I got my visual aids out in Farnborough, to check out the airfield, I nearly got arrested... but that's another story...
Jay: Why thankyou Jay :) It's nice to spread a little love about amongst the community :) The trick is to enjoy everything and always find new things. You do the same yourself, I mean, look at your journey with bubbles...
...now that was different :)
