Day 7: Groundhog day

Thank god I didn't wake up in England. It was great to have one more day in the US and happening to re-arrange my flight from 11:10pm Sunday to 11:10pm Monday was a cool move considering there were earlier flights... now why would I want to go home so soon?

Being the end of the official holiday BBFK went off to work, leaving me to investigate this little town in Connecticut... "and just down there are the shops" she said...

That's why Americans need cheap fuel, that's why they love their automobiles, that's why their sidewalks are in such a state of disrepair, even in the most expensive states in the States... "just down there" was bloody miles away...

Stars & StripesWe enjoyed a fine lunch together before BBFK dropped me off in the next town for some more browsing... and all I can say is that I love the proximity and variety of even just my local shops here in England... that is if I want a carpet, plumbing supplies, a flutter on the horses, booze, a haircut, a curry (or two), a pizza, petfood & fishing tackle, chips, a Chinese, some medication, newspapers, send parcels to my favourite people, pay my DVD rental, and the pub... oh...

I digress...

Yeah, we had another day together and it was Goooood (finest Jim Carey impression there, did ya see it?)

So. Finish work. Go to JFK. Get food, drink beer (thankyou babe) say farewell, I'll see you soon...

I love planes when they're going somewhere.
I hate planes when they're coming back...

I did miss England and I am glad to be back... only I seem to have left some people behind...

*stops in her tracks* Now what, preytell, is this: "a flutter on the horses"? *laughing....* (Reminds me of the days when I had to inquire about half the words/expressions in your post...)

My BBFK: *Yawns & stretches, having just woken up from a lunchtime kip after reading some more Harry Potter...* Well, Princess, you *are* becoming very Anglicised, are you not? All our tutoring seems to be paying off... *smiles*

But to your question, dear girl...

A "flutter on the horses" is a bet. There's a betting shop 'round the corner and all the old geezers sit there ALL day with their betting slips, watching the races and whatnot... even my old "Uncle Jack" has been know to be there once in a while...

Oh, thanks love, for sorting that out.

And seeing an American flag on your site (still) has me laughing....

    My BBFK: S'OK *grins*

Well, there weren't any other good photos from that day apart from a delicious picture of your neck and lovely cheekbones... but I'm too busy drooling over that one to find time to post it... *walks away laughing*

Leavings always hard to do. There is, however, a wondorous joy when you land back on your 'own' soil. Im not sure why, lets face it you are just as likely to be shot, stabbed, blown up, attacked in your car, murdered, raped, bitten (and not nicely) as you are anywhere else in the world. I guess it must be because there is a familiarity to the shooter, knife wielder, terrorist, road rager, muderer, rapist, biter. God bless our own criminals.

Im not quite sure how i ended up there on this post but im sure i mean every word of it.

Keeefer: Thankyou, brother Keefer, your words are very comforting... if I ever get shot, stabbed, blown up, attacked in my car, murdered, raped, bitten... I shall seek solace in the fact it was (hopefully) a native Angle/ Saxon/ Norse/ Pict/ Scot/ Celt descendant...

Yeah, why did you end up talking that stuff, dude? You took me right off track there...

Nah, native soil is cool 'cos at least I have the familiarity of stick shift, 4x4, turbo and a steering wheel on the *right* side... plus me bikes and well worn trails... and... that's about it really :( Where's BBFK? I miss her! :(

so how was the tea and biscuits in usa? did you missed those, or do they have decent tea over there?

  • At Wed Jul 27, 10:36:00 PM, Blogger Lever said…

Anonymous: Hello anon :) Funny you should say that... Tea is virtually non-existant in the US, hotel rooms, breakfast etc... lucky I was with a tea-friendly family AND took over gifts of PG Tips ;) Saying that, the only tea I saw was Iced Tea... just what was needed in 90° heat... and as for biscuits, well, we need to get the Tea situ sorted first :)

Really? I hate planes when I'm going somewhere, expectant. Much prefer them on the way back home. Check out my blog for more musings.

The flying the Union Flag debate continues in the UK. While we get told off for being patriotic our American cousins have their Stars and Stripes fluttering freely wherever they feel like it. Crazy! even worse, the BBC can play any national anthem whenever they feel like it.. except ours!!.. they have to seek permission first!!

Flying.. I love it... any way, there or back, just as long as I'm sitting infront of the wing! ;-)

Glad you had a good time Lever.

The whole non patriotic side of the UK iritates me. Here in Australia the flag is displayed everywhere (even hangs from the ceiling in the railway station). I like the Aussie flag, its just like looking at the Union Jack against a starry sky :)

When flying, the thing that concerns me is the way the engines wobble. Still none have fallen off yet so that always encouraging

Lever: Explain this google ad thats displaying on your site.

    Play Pro Guitar Quickly
I can show you how to play like a pro in less than 60 mins. Risk Free.

What kind of risk is involved when you learn to play the guitar? Is there a section of the course where you have to be strapped into an exploding codpiece or attacked by angry 'fans'? Or is that in somewhere like New Zealand there is a high risk Guitar course. Your first lession is while bunjie jumping, your second parachutting, your 3rd base jumping etc.

As this is your site, and you are a font of all knowledge (and the owner of one well travelled, and i suspect smelly, red basketball shirt)I expect an informed answer ;)

Rebekah: Thx for the recognition :)

Yeah, stars & stripes was the only good pic I had for that last day, so... yeah, whatever :)

Sleep, sleep... oh, you prolly are...

Littlel Kernel: Hey there :) LOL, yeah, different things for different people I suppose... it's not good flying home when you're leaving your beloved 3,500 miles behind you...

Brom-man: This whole patriotism issue is weird... it's great to identify yourself with a bit of pride, but also interesting not to expose yourself, identify your ID to potential threats...

As a Scot with an English accent I tend not to fly the St. George but would feel a little odd flying the St. Andrew, so the union flag is my best ID with the rest of my heritage.

Didn't know yours was the anthem that needed permission... :S

Flying... haha, not had any issues with the behind-the-wing seating...

Thx, Brom, had an AMAZiNG time ;)

Keeefer: I dunno, it's weird... flying a Union Jack and saying you're a Brit is overall good. But in some places people get the hump and get you for it...

When England play football abroad, we've had some complete FUCKWiTS beating up the locals, smashing stuff up, rioting, fighting... that's fucking embarrasing and dents my patriotism, especially when everyone else in the Union is so good...

And would I ID myself as a Brit in any "iffy" countries...? Hmmm...

    So it's a double-edged thing.

Engine wobble... ah, OK.. I'll definitely close my eyes next time... ;)

Google AdSense LMAO. Yeah, it sure beats the ads for Lebanese cooking that were prominent for so long...

OK, risks of guitar playing... sliced fingers, groupies (a bit like Harpies, which in turn sounds like an STD), spilling beer on the amp and getting electrocuted... having Keith Moon's exploding drum set behind you... attempting Angus Young style leg moves and ending up in hospital with groin strain... there, will that do ya? LOL

Yes, must change that shirt... was gonna do "t-shirt o' the day" database driven, but not there just yet...

    *sniffs armpits*

Keeefer: LOL and I knew you'd know I knew :S LOL

My BBFK: Cheers honey :D I like it when you talk dirty to me ;) *laughing* Yeah, my bro's hauling me up on this one :) Time for a shirt change and some clever (for me anyway) coding too methnks... X

Rebekah: That'll be man's intuition... so you got that "I just can't seem to wake up" feeling too? Hope you're getting a decent enough sleep of late, girl :)
