Jet Powered Punch

Jet Powered Punch

Remember ROM #21 from Marvel Comics, August 1981? The one titled "Move over, ROM, there's a new hero in town!" with the return of the Torpedo? You know, the guy in the blue suit with the natty rose tinted visor? Well he had this Jet Powered Punch.

WTF?

OK. Work and the business have been taking over Lever's life recently with little time for blogging and such. Also taking a hit has been my karate. Haven't been in about 6 weeks now and I miss it dearly. So, at the weekend I hit Blackbushe market for a 5' punchbag. I lugged the thing home and hauled it up on a rafter of the garage, secured in place by a decent rope.

This morning R drops off my gloves and I immediately go hell for leather with this punch bag, laying into it with gusto. At one point I needed to purge the soul of a little residual visciousness; so I left the disciplined moves of karate and I visualised on this bag and lashed out with all my might.

BLAM! The rope snaps, the bag hits the deck. Hence the Jet Powered Punch sprung to mind. I laughed.

But I do miss my workout, so now I gotta find some battleship chains :)

ROM! 1981? nice. I was 7. those were good comix back then.

and way to beat the crap out of things! anything having to do with hanging something from rafters sounds really tuff. keep it up, my man.

once again- you guys are cute in a very transcontinental sort of way.:)

Superfan: -10 LMAO When I wrote this yesterday I just *knew* you were gonna say that LOL

Johnny Crash: Yeah, Marvel had a certain charm back then and ROM, greatest of the Spaceknights, was a major dude for only the nerdiest of kids... don't think I've ever met anyone into ROM :(

The bag's on a hefty old chain now and it's been *severely* tested so the next post on the subject will be about the garage falling down *imagines standing amidst a pile of rubble, guard up, covered in brick dust...* LOL

Hey thx but BBFK's *way* cuter than me ;) LOL We'll be same-continental again v soon though :)

Being a ROM fan, I loved the Torpedo reference, and with my IT job in a school district running me ragged of late, I can relate the Kitty-Pryde-eske need to punch something hard!

Thanks for the comments on RFG...I've been a ROM fan since 1982 (I was a junior in High School when I first started collecting, and I kept up with it til the bitter end).

Ironic that I just picked up a pint of Adnams SSB at my local grocery for a steal ($0.99 a bottle--I'm taking it that that's a really decent price for a TRUE pint), and in true American fashion, it's sitting in the door of our refrigerator (cringing in anticipation of the flaming inbound about drinking a COLD pint of bitters!).

Spcknght: Welcome aboard, Spaceknight, glad you could make it :)

LMAO get yourself a punchbag dude, it does wonders for the soul :) Oh, and the left hook ;)

Wow, awesome! You got into ROM way before me man. I saw the ROM action figure in a copy of Iron Man #132 which I picked up in Canada when I was like 9 years old but didn't get my first UK ROM until #45 "The Dead Zone" in '83 where he meets the Soviet Super Soldiers. From there in I was hooked and started collecting back copies :)

99c for an SSB? *jaw drops* Geez, it's $2.30 a bottle over here !!! LOL Drink cool not cold ;)

Anyways, nice to have you around dude - good taste in Marvel AND beer *big thumbs up* :)

August of '81? I was about 3 months shy of turning 3, so... I don't really remember that! LOL

The closest I ever got to being into a comic was XMEN, and that was mostly because of the 90s cartoon (and one of my brothers being a huge fan... too bad I don't remember much of it now). I was so happy when the movies came out, just for the connection to that part of the past. Not to mention all the hotties that were cast (with exception, of course. won't go there)

Anyway.... have fun beating up on that punching bag.... great tension reliever... shoot, now you're giving me ideas! *laughing*

Restless Angel: Hey there Restless, and welcome :)

Well the less you remember of the 80s could be a good thing right? To forget all that dayglo stuff would be great :)

LOL X-Men were great, and as for hotties, I quite fancied Famke Janssen as Jean Gray, I mean who wouldn't like an intelligent, good-looking hot female Doctor? LOL

I'm just going to give that bag a good hiding right now - go get one, girl, it'll do you good :)

There were blue skies weren't there? Green fields, sun shining...? LOL

Tescosuicide: Ah sorry Dude, it was a mega mad rush, we had to go to a family wedding and everything. Mind you it's only 3-4 hours drive, BBFK says it's "do-able" so I'll give you a shout in a couple of weeks, see if we can hook up? :)

D'ya think it'll look good with the pink goggles? LOL
