Salem's Wet, Boston's Lot

Friday: With 16" of rain last week in parts of New England, the drive from CT to MA was a real trip... It totally pissed it down, and I mean PISSED it down, ALL the way along the 170 miles of Interstate to Boston... when you felt you'd had enough you realised there was still more to go... that was probably THE most intense drive ever...

Saturday: Salem was wet, interesting, but full of cheap tourist traps.

Into Boston

Sunday: Boston was excellent, prettier, more cosy than NYC

And parking, well, in the presence of BBFK that's a story in itself...

Parking was the easy bit - we grabbed a ticket from the machine, found a parking spot and headed to the elevator down to the streets of Boston... just before the big sign...

TAKE YOUR TICKET WITH YOU

Lever: "You got the ticket?"
BBFK: "Oh Shit!"

BBFK rummages in trash can

Lever: "WTF are you doing?"
BBFK: "I put the ticket in my pocket then threw the litter from my pocket in the trash... wait... here it is..."

BBFK pulls our crumpled ticket from trash can, complete with unidentified filth on it

Lever: "Thanks honey, and for the brown goo on it too. Thanks"
BBFK: "Sorry."

The parking fees were going to be stupid but just about worth it to park so close to the Freedom Trail and stuff like that. Any stay over 80 minutes up to 24 hours was $29.00 !! Fucking expensive but hey, it made me feel at home...

We spend the day in Boston - awesome. Interesting. Homely.
We get back to the car park - I insert the ticket in the pay-point.

You owe us $58.00

What??? $58.00??

BBFK asks the assistant for er... assistance. She checks our ticket... she shows it to us... it states, quite cleraly, that we parked up sometime on Saturday. Saturday?? How the fuck did we manage that??

It turns out BBFK has only gone and pulled the wrong ticket from the trash can... when she volunteered to have a look in the trash again for our ticket I just said "no honey, no"...

So yeah, we get interrogated, stripped, searched... Nah, not really, they just checked a list of the plates of the cars in overnight and found we weren't listed. Whew. Thank fuck for that. It's ONLY $29.00. Yeehah!!

I think BBFK was a Parking Warden in a past life...

Hehe, cool, tickets, goo, homely feelings and fun, fun, fun... it was thick... I say thick fog here this morning (monday 17th)... a grey, damp towel had been draped across surrey and London... you missing it?

BBFK is never so accident prone around me. I think you must be a bad influence. Oh wait, I'm the one who usually loses the ticket. Anyway thanks for the chuckle! :)

Davinian: Aw fog, I miss fog - Haven't seen and mist or fog for a month now... yeah I miss it... I will have to be in UK for 6 months of the year and US for 6 months... that would be ideal :)

SfMD: LOL, I dunno... she got towed numerous times and carried on the parking problems when we met... so I think it's got something to do with me expecting parking issues... LOL :)

Poor BBFK - how does she do it? In some alternate universe it's probably a really enviable skill, right?

I have an annoying knack for finding free parking all the time. People hate me for it, because usually I get off scot-free and all my friends are parked with BBFK...

I saw that one coming! Still a good yarn tho'

Always wanted to see Boston. I've managed the Airport so far. Changing planes there once the girl at the desk said to me as I stood there in my T-shirt.

"You have to go to the other terminal" ..Ok, no problem

"You have to walk outside".. OK

    "It's very cold and snowing"

    Hey I'm Brom-man, where's the door!

Rebekah: LOL, it's always Becky and her parking isn't it?

So what sorta goo did you get? I think this was some sorta mochaccino stuff but I dared not sniff it - it just went straight into the wallet...

Jay: Ah, I dunno Jay... this girl has a sort of reaction with cars, parking, clamping, towing... it's all cool though, I love her all the same :)

OK, so you're coming out with us too, huh? We need your freebie parking skills, maybe with my occasional luck in that department we can turn the tide... ;) LOL

Brom-man: Yeah, typical aint it :)

You'll like Boston, very nice place, Brom, totally different feel to NYC. More relaxed, cleaner, less shouty - native New Yorkers are way loud...

LMAO - was that the deleted scene from "Planes, trains & Automobiles"? They don't understand our "small island conquering the world" mentality do they? LOL Hardcore.

LOL on the car parking, and Boston is the city of the "Big Dig" !!! (ie, constant chaotic construction).

Was that Salem, MA, you went to, just north of Boston? My sister lives there... and I was there in Sept !!!

I love Salem, haven't been there in a long time. Did you go to the Witch Museum? Did you/are you going to Gloucester in your travels? At least the worst you have to worry about there is parking meters! LOL

Red: Yeah, BBFK told me about the Big Dig... there was this HUGE ice cream sundae model ontop of this parlour in Reading, MA, and it was taking the piss outta the big dig... I'll grab it of the HDD sometime amd post it for ya :)

Yep, that was Salem MA, just north o' Boston. Nice place. Totally rain soaked though. We shoulda gone said hi to your sis huh? LOL :)

Restless Angel: Yeah, we went to the Witch Museum, there were a load of old dummies in there... the best one was George Burrough's arrest - he was punching some dude in the chops and the dummies were in mid0flight... shoulda got a picture...

I think we went through or past Gloucester on our way to Salem from Burlington, we stopped at Reading too to pick up beer & wine :)

    Sorry hon...

    Rebekah dahhling,
Hmmm, well sashes are not regularly integrated into my wardrobe, I would consider it, if it was your handiwork... *wink*

Rebekah: Ooh, look, THere's your answer... ;)

    Pub-lick tastes of beer...

RahX: And because everything's geared up to cars there's not always anywhere to park the bike... I do love my car but for local stuff nothing beats walking and biking. Or driving to the mountains to walk... a necessary evil in some cases though I wish I could go bio-diesel... hmmm, projects for home I think...

My BBFK: S'OK babe, this is as much your place as it is mine :) ;)
