It's a Dog Year!
Kung Hey Fat Choi!
Yesterday was Chinese New Year, this one being the year of the Dog. WooHoo. And where better to celebrate than... er, London ;)
We arrived in Trafalgar Square in time to catch mayor Ken Livingston's speech and that of the Chinese Ambassador and, get this, we even saw the Red Arrows! Except that, due to some reason or another, they couldn't fly and all the pilots filed onto the stage (not in formation) to which our lady compere uttered
So after our pre-schooling we watched the dragon dances, more dragon dances, went off to Leicester Square to queue for noodles, got deafened by firecrackers, hit Chinatown for more dragon dances and a crowd crush where I had to struggle to stop the idiot hordes from quite literally squeezing the air out of my lungs and breaking any more ribs!
Then more firecrackers, snacking on dragon's beard candy and then finally the temperature dropped below zero so we headed for home. Via the London Eye, of course, lit up in red just for the ocassion :)
Wealth, health, happiness, prosperity & success to you all.

You don't say... and...
"Red is a lucky colour which is why they're wearing red" (flightsuits)Er, excuse me dear, I think it's because they're the red arrows...

We went to the asian mall to spend the money we got in the little red envelopes, where we met the god of fortune and learned some really loopy things.

Jay: Awsome. You got money! So was it CADs or Chinese money? I'd have taken the Chinese Money home for luck unless there's something really loopy saying you shouldn't ;)

My BBFK: In this case I shall take you along next year :) There was even a big Chinese Dog in the centre of Gerard Street, I had some pics of that somewhere. Noe would've thought it well cute but the crowds were a bit crazy at times, even for adults :)
Chi-Chi? Isn't that Panda pee or something?

LMAO...I wouldn't be surprised about the panda pee...the place was called Panda Pavilion. ;) It was still damn tasty, panda pee or not.

My BBFK: AHA - I thought as much. Panda pee from the Panda Pavillion, now how do I guess that...?
Did you have any strange-tasting chocolates to go with your drink BTW? ;) :p

Rebekah: Ok, fair enuff, no comment on the Chi chi pee then :)
Yeah, we have a lot to learn from eastern counterparts. I like the fact that red is such a great colour in Chinese culture - I like red. But I wouldn't wear anything more than a shirt or a coat - red shoes are kinda weird (except Doc Martins) and red trousers are a no no.
OK, Rooster's Advocate, I'll stop now :)

aMb!TiOuS_gUrL: Crikey, that was two years ago! LOL
We bought the dragon beard candy from a street vendor, they were making it fresh as we watched. When it's been sat for a while dragon beard candy goes rock hard!
I've not been able to find anywhere that sells dragon beard candy but then I've not really tried looking :)
