Black Hole of Calcutta
OK, so it's probably an old colonial term and possibly not so pc these days, but I said it so there
And that's where I've been since the last post (another phrase of empire) so I apologise for having not been around.
Yes, the black hole of Calcutta - a room just 10' x 20' with 2x small windows at one end, a view of tree canopies & ex-council houses, full of electric equipment, upping the temperature in the heat of the English summertime, and yet one thing draws me there day after day... it pays the bills!
Yes, it's that time of year again where I've been looking after the company office whilst the owners hop Greek Islands. It's small here, hot, hot, hot and incredibly dark, and yet that last bit is of my own volition for shunning the pallid artifical glow of man's awful invention - the fluorescent strip light.
I have forgone my design/ programming/ editorial/ research duties for temporarily pandering to the needs of the sales & marketing department and it is a strange beast. Convoluted sales techniques, smoke, mirrors... I could do this sales stuff, only I'd rather sell houses... I mean 4 grand for 4 days work... ;)
Right, that's enough for now... back into my hole I go... and then out of it later for some World Cup action v my club keeper... Shaka or England? My loyalties are divided ;)
Hope you're all doing OK, only one more week of this and I'll be free again :)

I think freedom must be overrated; why else are we all so tied down?
World Cup fever is high here, but Toronto is sooo multi-cultural that there is no strong favourite. Literally, there are t-shirts and car flags for every team going, and some that stopped going some time ago!

somebody give me a job. so i can bitch about that :)

My commiserations ... your absence is now understood, although I did get worked up for a moment there, thinking 'yay, posts about his trip to India' ...
As you were Di.

Ey-Up Lever! I guess we all have a black hole somewhere? Err yes, Mine is a tad larger than yours but does come equipped with resonable aircon but crummy little windows. Wintertime if I blog all lunchtime I might not see the sun until the weekend! A case of SAD squared? Chin up!

Jay: The cogs of the global business machine turn and we all get sucked in... Aaarrrggghhh!
Oooh, cool Toronto, that sounds good :) Yeah, I don't even fancy England to get anywhere but I will be happy for them & the country if they do. Spare a thought for us and the Americans, Jay, I think our football teams will need it ;)
Rebekah: OK, I'll bake cakes and make the tea and you can answer the phones, work out where the files are, organise the server, calculate the quadratic-equation-based sales orders, wade through hundreds of spam emails... ;) How does that sound? ;) :)
Wandering Woman: LOL, funnily enough I jhad a great conversation this morning with a guy who is importing stuff from India and his life & business sound really cool... India is definitely on the travel list for the next couple of years I think :) Poona here we come... :)
Brom: 'Ow-do Brom :) LOL, yeah, sorry for not keeping in touch, it has been the most hectic couple of weeks here... yeah, SAD is something I suffer from too, hence the long away weekends :) Hope you're doing well, my friend :)

Rebekah: LMAO OK, deal. Glad you like the toaster BTW :D
Oh, and me & Becks were saying only yesterday how good you look in your wedding pic :) Lovely :)
My BBFK: Aw babe, I know; for all its recent technological improvements, that damn office has some stupid communication quirks and all due to security paranoia! I'll be back, you know I will... this Friday should be my last day in the hole :)
