The Red Arrows
Well, considering the Farnborough Airshow is coming up, The Red Arrows just put on a quick run-through to polish up their already amazing flying skills, even though it is a bit overcast today.

It occurred to me that possibly this was their way of paying respect to the people that were killed in London on 7/7...

My BBFK: Hmm, possibly, seeing as the official public days are 2 weeks away, it does seem a little early... but then you only normally get a fly-by if your fabulously wealthy family has been stealing money from poor people for hundreds of years ;)

Nice photo! You must have taken that quickly, or heard them coming. Did they take off from the airfield? Where I am I see the small business jets landing, just after the cross the A331, and almost fly down Boundary Road by the college.
Wonder if they'd have landed like that.... last airshow we (me&neighbours) stood outside as we heard lots of noise, and saw them with the smoke trails on the last day (Sun?) just before 4pm. Very cool, and _very_ close !

Oh, just thought, if it was for the 7/7 rememberance, wouldn't they have flown over London?

Red: I heard the jet roar and legged it out into the garden to take a couple of shots - it was tricky to get a clear shot with all the trees round here and the random nature of the flight paths...
But yeah, sounds like you've got a good seat where you are dude. I saw a girl on Alexandra Road a week ago physically jump as a small business jet flew low over the houses... it was quite amusing - poor girl LOL
Yeah, I think it was a practice run. The Red Arrows, I mean ;)
SfMD: Thx SfMD. There were only seconds to get it and it came out OK. Shame the sun wasn't out or else it would have been a lot shinier :)

I loved going to airshows as a kid back in Michigan. The family would pile up and head to one part or another of the state to see all the awesome aircraft.
The Blue Angels and Thunderbirds were always my favorites. I found some video of a Thunderbird accident with one lucky pilot. You can find a ground shot and cockpit shot here:

Matt: Ah, why did we do these things more when we were kids huh? :)
Thx for the vid, dude. That guy had a lucky, low, low level escape... and only one more life left right? 2x ejects is about as much as a pilot can handle due to the forces involved in compressing the spine or so I hear.

Wow, that's amazing. It's almost hard to believe that they don't crash into each other. They seem too close!
What it must be to have skill like that.
By the way, thank you for stopping by my site. I appreciated your contribution!

Josephine: Those Red Arrows are absolutely amazing - there's more to come over the next few weeks if I can sneak away from my work and get some photo/video in :)
It was a pleasure dropping by - nice to see an appreciation of graffiti - must dig out some shots from my own archive :)

ya know, when at my wedding the blue angels flew right over our church on their entrance run into the air show over san francisco bay. we cut it close cause we were 15 minutes late starting...
anyway, everybody thought we had planned it that way. heh!

I must confess to hating the Red Arrows, I just find them the most boring of any air-show display team in the world... wow, lets fly about a bit and fire some red, white and blue smoke out of our arses! still I guess it's a British thing...

Narthex: LOL what great timing. Now don't give me any ideas... ;)
Davinian: LMAO OK I admit they're not the scariest bastard fliers out there but I totally appreciate their skill - the Red Arrows really make me smile - I dunno if it's just that Brit thing or having flow a couple of planes that makes me buzz when I see the precision of some of those moves...

So jealous I am.
I lived on an airforce base for 4 years back in NZ ... sigh, love the planes.
(Whisper: I was just gifted a Canon EOS 350D as a gift of significance by an old friend. They are even better than anything I had imagined). ;)

Wandering Woman: Ah, S'OK, I'll make sure there's some vids (and some bandwidth) here soon :)
Lived ON a base? Wow! I get to go on base once or twice a year but no jets :(
Oh, and that whisper... I'm envious now... the S7000 just doesn't have the optical zoom needed for good plane photos, so I'm gonna have to look into this 350D + lense business... can't get left behind now can we? ;) A gift? A gift? Ha! Wish I had friends like that... :p

Lived on a base and was married to an officer (lol, just a teacher who joined up late) but we made some lovely friends AND one of them was in charge of the Macchi squadron.
Guess wot ... I got to fly one of the jet trainers ... it was all pretend and on the ground so I didn't expect to be fooled BUT I WAS. It was stunning, I smiled for days.
I never did quite manage to work out how to injure myself enough in the mountains (without losing consciousness or being uncomfortable) in order to be picked up by a NZ airforce Iroquoi helicopter.
Loved the skyhawks ... need to see an airshow over on this side of the world one day ... must be fantastic.
Sigh ... a wee trip down memory lane, right here in your comments box ... sorry
And oh yes, get that camera. They're as sexy as hell.
