Yanks make surprisingly good tea

August 30th, 2006

Well folks, sorry for the quiet spot…

New HomeI moved about 50 yards up the road into a bigger house, had tons of junk to shift & dispose of, then all the tidying and sorting, which is still far from being finished, changing the billing addresses on ALL the accounts (one seems to forget how many there are – 3 credit cards, charge card, bank, 3 magazine subscriptions, gas, electric, water, the business, business banking, a million and one websites…) the ongoing BiG (BiG, BiG) work project, Volvo Prangno broadband (!!) for 2 of those weeks and on the day BBFK & Nöel landed in England I stuck her tank up the arse of another car! Funnily enough littl’un stayed asleep in her seat the whole time! Considering there was a busted light, shoved-in bumper, bent grill not to mention the dented tailgate of the other car, then you’d have thought she’d have woken up.

And then there was the foiled terror plot the day after BBFK landed, a weekend in Wales carrying bikes into cloud-misted peaks and throwing ourselves off the other side, buying a new bike for Nöel, another for BBFK and a monster machine for me (props to Cycle Kingdom in Fleet for the great service… oh, and BTW… when are you guys gonna sort your website out? ;) Misty Mountain HopOh wait… I could do that…) plus numerous bottles of Champagne (thankyou, friends), curries, BBQs, clearing the backyard jungle, having a busted Dyson vacuum cleaner for nearly 3 weeks, fixing some foreign bloke’s dented car for ca$h, showing the broad ’round the world’s biggest outdoor market, buying her a 2 dollar outfit, a day at the zoo and then more work, work, work.

And yes, these Yanks make surprisingly good mugs of tea :)

A Moving Story

August 2nd, 2006

When you’ve lived somewhere for 7 years or more you become quite attached to the red bricks, the white-painted render, the low pitched roof and the gravel driveway where your cars sit on display to the oggling passers-by.

And yet, when the time comes, the two-bedroomed bungalow, with it’s almost courtyard style back garden, hemmed in by brickwork & high hedges, becomes too small for even those desperate notions of expansion – why lose your small patch of lawn to expand your living quarters when, for only another ten grand, you can get another two rooms and another floor?

And that’s just what happened. “Kept under one’s hat” whilst the deal was sealed, there is now a cacophony of boxes to negotiate, less avoid for the last few weeks. Super Nintendo games and boxes of PC parts & data cables in the bathroom: bizarre! But they will take their place on the truck and find their way to a new home, with 40 year old wiring and 1964′s kitchen, but it will be a nice project and a great home.

But why oh why do I need 3 bedrooms, I hear you ask, when just 1 and a studio have served me well all these years?

Farewell bungalow.

Hello House.

So if I am incommunicado for a few days, you’ll know why ;)

The Chav Git Roundabout

August 1st, 2006

Kids, a scooter and a playground roundabout; now what can you make out of those three ingredients? The Chav Git Roundabout of course!

From Crawley in Sussex, a chav with a phone cam brings you this…. (as advertised on tonight’s ITV News)

Now I wonder what that would be like using an XT 350?
