Dreams Never End

New OrderIt's been less than a year since I last saw New Order at the Brixton Academy but because my BBFK couldn't go then I decided to grab some more tickets for this year :)

So it was nice to have BBFK, Mr. Squiggles and another friend along for a night of London rush-hour traffic-jammery travel to the "new" Wembley Arena; basically the old Wembley Arena with a face-lift. Not bad.

The support group, Maximo Park, were pretty decent, but then came on the heroes...

...starting off with a Joy Division set, lots of jumping around and a few drunken sods in the crowd being a nuisance. And they played...
  1. She's Lost Control
  2. Shadowplay
  3. These Days
  4. Transmission,
  5. Love Will Tear Us Apart
  6. Atmosphere
  7. Waiting For The Sirens' Call
  8. Ceremony
  9. Who's Joe
  10. Crystal
  11. Regret
  12. Guilt Is A Useless Emotion
  13. Bizarre Love Triangle
  14. Temptation
  15. The Perfect Kiss
  16. Blue Monday
  17. (lots of shouting "Encore, encore")
  18. Love Vigilantes
  19. Turn
  20. True Faith
Not bad; a few bum notes here & there, some well out-of-key synths in "Blue Monday" and only one "whooo" from Barney, but a good gig nonetheless, although a little more poppy than last year's Academy gig which was darker, smaller, sweatier, more Joy Division territory...

I stood in front of my delicate little wench for most of the gig, protecting her as best I could from the staggering bodies & random fists and ended up with a few pull muscles in my arm from jettisoning the occasional retard from our little bit of space...

Then drove home, missing my junction on the M25 but eventually got us all home safely.

Thanks people, that was a good night :)

Encore!

I think I might have liked to go home after number 4. Probably good that I didn't spend time and money on this concert, then.

Jemima: Well with me driving you'd have had to prop up the bar until the rest of us had trooped out :p

Rebekah: It really was a moving experience... Shadowplay & Transmission were just great... Atmosphere & Ceremony seriously made the ground shift and bought a tear to my eye, me stood there wondering what it would be like if Ian Curtis were still with us... and even the recent Crystal has become a decent live experience...

At times it did feel out-of-body, trust me :)

Wow, I haven't been to a gig for over a year now, at all, and before that it was around a decade. Problems seem to be that not many shows I want to see come here, and if they do I'm jsut too bloody tired or disorganised to go and see them, or I get scared and feel like I'll be the oldest person there, or I don't want to go on my own, or or or....it sucks

Mummy/Crit: No, no, no you gotta go gigging... and as for being the oldest at a gig, let's put it this way... I saw Kitaro at the Royal Albert Hall a few years back and he was well spritely... and when I saw Hawkwind again last year Dave Brock was (supposedly) in his 64th year... so us 30-somethings are way cool :D

I thought they'd split up a few years back. They are a band i'd love to see live. Do they still have the same naked dancer? If so are her breasts now trailing on the floor?

My BBFK: I called you delicate :) xxx
