Windows Vista Public Launch

I just laughed my arse off at Bill Gates on the BBC website today in the story entitled "Microsoft starts Vista hard sell"
Microsoft chairman Bill Gates, speaking at the global launch of Vista at the British Library in London, said: "We have worked hard to build a new software platform."
Yes, I'm sure you have, Bill, just in the same way that President Bush & his regime worked hard to bring Democracy to Iraq. But I digress...

This is the real gem...
"We are so excited to see what people are going to do with it."
Yeah, Bill, check this out...

ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOTHING

Hahahaha.

Look, mate, it's just another bloody Microsoft Obfuscating System and I'll only buy it if I absolutely bloody well have to, but seeing as XP aint broke I aint gonna fix it. Besides, I quite fancy a Gnome or KDE for my unix desktop, maybe even one of them Mac things...

Anyway Bill, you're already the world's richest man, so why bother trying to flog 4 home versions? You'll only confuse people and make yourself even richer...

Me? Bitter? Twisted? Yes, yes and Yes!

ha ha well said mr lever dude, gates has done his business and only doing shit like this for the shareholders - they'd be on his ass if he didn't!

Piniyini: Yep, absolutely spot on dude. You can just imagine some corporate crackhead sitting in the boardroom laying out his pitch for the next wave of M$ Operating Shitstem...

"Look, this is a no-brainer... remember how we went from 1 OS like Win 95, Win98, Windoze 2K, Windows ME (Yuppie flu) and on to Win XP where we split it into two, making XP Home and XP Pro and doubled our revenue stream? Well if we turn Windows Vista into 4 packages we can double our stream AGAIN... Woopee" *Snorts more cocaine off the boradroom table through a $1000 dollar "Bill"...*

I was zoning out in my girlish technowhat? way until, ooh, "obfuscating" there's a word and a half. Not that I'm attracted to words or nothing, I AM normal. But, mmm. Nice word. Mmm. I need a lie down.

Oh and Gatesy, yeah, idiot, or something. Will my PC die now I've said that?

We'll see... yes, most people are going to ignore it until they buy a new PC that it comes with for free.

I beta tested, and its more like the change from 2000 to XP. Or more correctly MacOS 9 to MacOS X.

The IT industry needs its operating systems to evolve, the hardware is. Try installing NT4 (10yrs old) on a 2007 PC.... ;-)

I'm not buying it, but it'll come around soon enough by itself, and we will wonder what the fuss was about.

(Psst, the same fuss happened with 2000, and XP !!).

Jemima: LMAO Glad you liked my word choice, not that I'm particularly articulate or anything ;)

What surprises me is that Bill Gates is a really clever guy, it's just his blooming products that annoy me and many other people on a daily basis... Grrr. I think your PC'll get BSOD anyway ;)

Red: You're right... we'll see :) Silicon.com ran a poll the other day and it was a good 50% that just didn't care to upgrade and just wait and see what happens...

Besides, haven't M$ just tried to be as cool as Apple, which they will never do?

I wouldn't dare touch NT4 now, XP is good enough and should last me for a good few years. I still think the 4x home versions of Windows Vista is a bit much though :S

LMAO...you're funny Honey. *happily smirks as she types away on her trusty mac*
Oh an aside...Bill was wearing a pinstripe suitcoat during his BBC interview. I think he wanted to fit in. ;)

My BBFK: OK, double trouble, don't get cocky, alright?

Ah, Bill's alright, it's just the silly software... He's already taken over the world in many ways, I think he should let someone else have a go...

LOL, er yeah pigs might fly. I think MS are just trying to update the OS to use the hardware now, modern machines have proper graphics cards, that when XP was launched would have cost thousands if available.

XP is now supported to 2011, announced this week, so you're ok there ;-) NT4 is still in use in some corporates, although we've wiped out 98% of it now at my customer site (thank deity). 4 versions? Home, and Home Premium are the two I know of. The Premium version is the only one to touch. (I ignore the N versions that the EU forced MS to create).

    See Vista Editions here.

On Bill - he's handed the company over. Its Ballmer we've got to be worried about now, and I think worried is the right word... he's not right in the head :)

I loved reading your post. I'll tell you though, I wasn't expecting such a world class rant! After your smooth comment on my blog about the Vista Bootleg, you sounded almost keen on Microsoft. Now, it is obvious, you respect BG as a great business man that helped put a computer in every house (just like me), but outgrew the product sales pitches.

MacBook here I come. Time to learn to ride a bike again.

What's wrong with a Pinstripe Suit?!!!!

Red: LOL cool. I've not been up to spec on the grafx cards since my build last year, but my ISP just bought a shit-hot card to toy with... I shall have to dig out the render stats on it, it was pretty impressive...

Yeah, we just exterminated our NT4 six months ago, man, it just had to be put out of our misery :D

But there are 5 versions now! LOL Thanks for the link ;)

I've heard that Steve Ballmer's a bit balmy ;) Actually, I've heard that he's a bit of a loon, but then I'd best finish off the Gates biography I'm reading... 1994 edition LOL

Monks: Dude, I'm glad to put a smile on people's faces, thx :)

I don't totally hate Microsoft, their office software does me OK, but it's IE with its non-standards compliance (OK IE7 is better than IE6 but WAY behind Firefox in terms of fun and function), their ripping-off of other people's ideas (the concepts of Windows & the mouse were Xerox's I believe, plus MS are NOT copying OSX, no way ;) ), their buggy builds, the extraction of cash from people for things that aren't even that hot etc that really piss me off...

Nothing wrong with pinstripes, Becky just noticed that they're BIG over here the last 12 months... ;)

I really have no idea why people are compelled to come out with new versions of basically the same thing all the time. It seems their only purpose is to out-date the previous version. Just a friendly reminder to spend money for no apparent reason.

Rebekah: Wow, you got a Macbook thingy for Christmas? That's so cool. I think I'd better have me one now, just to catch up with all you cool folx.

Yeah, M$ will never catch up with Apple...

Jay: LOL Makes you wonder why Bill & the boys don't bring out a new OS every 6 months huh?

I shall NOT be buying it, oh no... no Vista for me :)

I recently had to get an IBM (my new business software does come in "Mac"). I couldn't actually bring myself to BUY an IBM, so I bought one of those dual core Macs that can run windows. Well, let me just tell you...IBM BLOWS (Sorry Bill ;) )! It makes me cry everytime I have to use Windows on my Mac (I'm pretty sure I can hear my Mac weeping as well).

Vicious Summer: You know what, Summer? I'm starting to feel a lean towards the Mac of late. I even had an M$ system guy come in to work today slagging off both M$ AND Windows Fister! I never thought I'd see the day, as he's always been so entrenched!

Yeah, I could be turning, I should use BBFK's Mac for a day and see how I get on ;)
