Some Solstice

June 21st. The longest day of the year. Summer Solstice. I had planned to drive or hitch to either Stonehenge or Avebury and watch the sunrise. But keeping an eye on the weather forecast was right - it's a grey cloudy morning and it's friggin' raining. Bummer Solstice more like. Maybe next year...

'Dispatches' - Michael Herr - Brutal & honest account of the Vietnam War through a reporter's eyes. Michael Herr also co-wrote the script for 'Apocalypse Now' and the screenplay of 'Full Metal Jacket'

'Human Punk' - John King - England, Summer 1977 - The sounds and the smells of a country seething with the need to do something else. If you were there, you'll reminisce to this...

'The Ecology of Commerce: A Declaration of Sustainability' - Paul Hawken - A common sense look at the way business & industry can work with the environment and not against it...

'The Devil in the White City' - Erik Larson - A mesmerising historical tale of Chicago's epic 1893 world fair and the characters in and around it, including a very, very dark psycopath...

'Joe Strummer and the Legend of The Clash' - Kris Needs - Brilliant account of the rise of The Clash, one of THE most important bands in British music history...

'In Praise of SLOW' - Carl Honore - How a worldwide movement is challenging the Cult of Speed. Don't rush me, I haven't finished it yet...

'Emperor: Death of Kings' - Conn Iggulden - Interesting historical tale of the rise of Julius Caesar - should have started with the first book, but this is still good.
